Staxyn works by increasing blood flow to the penis by relaxing muscles throughout the body and redirecting a larger quantity of unused blood to the penis. Men taking it report harder and longer lasting erections. After the blood flow decreases and the erection will decrease on its own like normal.

The most commonly prescribed dosage of Staxyn is 10 mg. Your prescribing doctor will work with you to find what dosage is right for you.
Staxyn comes as a dissolvable tablet to take by mouth by placing under the tongue. This medication is not approved for daily use and should only be taken as needed. Take Staxyn approximately one hour before engaging in sexual activity. If you have any health conditions or are taking certain medications, make sure to speak with your doctor. Your doctor may tell you to take Staxyn less often or change your dosage. Make sure to carefully follow the directions on your prescription label, and ask your doctor or pharmacist any questions you may have pertaining to the drug. Take Staxyn exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not increase of decrease your dosage without first consulting your doctor. Do not take it more often than prescribed.
Your doctor will probably start you on a low to average dose of Staxyn and increase or decrease your dose depending on your response to the medication. Tell your doctor if Staxyn is not working well for you or if you are experiencing any lingering or unpleasant side effects.
The most common side effects include headache, flushing, congested nose, dizziness or back pain. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
If you have an irregular heart beat, blood pressure issues, are recovering from surgery or have any other cardiovascular problems, speak with your doctor before taking this medication and be sure to give him your complete medical history.
Make sure to tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, herbal supplements and any vitamins. Don’t leave anything out. Staxyn and other medicines can cause unsafe interactions. Always check with your doctor before starting or stopping any medicines. Never increase or decrease your dosage on your own. Be sure to tell your doctor if you take nitrates such as (doxazosin mesylate), Minipress® (prazosin HCl Hytrin® (terazosin HCl), Flomax® (tamsulosin HCl), Cardura® (doxazosin mesylate), Minipress® (prazosin HCl) or Uroxatral® (alfuzosin HCl). Always be sure to tell your doctor if you take medicine to treat or prevent abnormal heartbeat such as quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone and sotalol ritonavir (Norvir®) or indinavir sulfate (Crixivan®) ketoconazole or itraconazole (such as Nizoral® or Sporanox®) erythromycin or other medicines or treatments for ED.
All FDA-approved ED medications to date have been fairly similar in regards to how they work. They are all considered PDE5 Inhibitors, which allow you to have better developed and maintained erections. However, each product has its own individual differences in terms of results.
