Metrogel (metronidazole topical) is an antibacterial topical gel which is prescribed to treat patients who are suffering from chronic acne, rosacea or acne rosacea.
The acne caused by acne rosacea is the same as teenage acne and is quite often mistaken for it. It is caused by similar bacteria infecting the skin pores. Metrogel attacks and eliminates these bacteria and the pores become healthy again and ultimately acne-free.
This drug works by attacking and killing acne-causing bacteria deep in the pores of the skin. Generally it will take several weeks before you see the desired results, as acne-causing bacteria can imbed deep in the pores. Metrogel works to treat rosacea by killing lesion-causing bacteria in the skin and reducing the inflammation caused by rosacea.
Proper skin care treatment starts first with the products that you use and how often you care for your skin. You want to make sure that you are using products that are safe and hypo-allergenic, and you want to make sure that you wash and cleanse your skin at least two times per day.
Only use this product as directed to by a doctor or a pharmacist. Most often it will be prescribed for twice-daily applications, in the morning and at night. Make sure you thoroughly wash and dry the area prior to applying Metrogel. If you miss an application simply apply Metrogel at the first chance that you get.
Make sure that you discuss with your physician ANY and ALL drugs, lotions, topical creams, ointments, gels and skin care products that you are currently using in order to avoid any potential interactions or allergic reactions from occurring. Women who are currently breastfeeding should make sure that they make their doctor aware of this prior to using Metrogel.
